Overview

Deals are an advanced agreement on purchased inventory between a buyer and seller. Deals present opportunities for publishers to charge premiums on their inventory or pre-negotiate terms that create the best opportunity on both sides of a transaction.

There are four different deal type options:

  • Guaranteed
  • Open Auction
  • Preferred
  • Private Auction

See Create a Deal for more information on deal types.

After creating a deal, line items can target that deal under the App/Site targeting section, and reportable data for the deal's performance will be available in the Deal Report. Although deals can be created within the UI, buyers also have the option of using an external deal. For this scenario, a publisher may create a deal in their system and then share that external deal ID with a buyer using the DSP. That deal ID is then able to be targeted by a line item, which streamlines operations significantly.

If using an external deal from an outside system, reportable data will not be available for that external deal ID in the Deal Report.

Target a Deal on a Line Item

Once a deal is created, it is eligible for targeting on a pre-created or new line item. To target a deal, follow these steps:

  1. From the App/Site tab on the line item targeting screen, scroll down to Deal.

On the App/Site tab on the line item targeting page, there are two format options to toggle between when selecting a deal; represented by this image in the UI:

    1. List view: This view will source deals that have been created for the account. To find and select the desired deal, scroll or search by the deal name.

    2. Comma separated text field for manual input of deal ID's without creating a deal object.
  2. View a list of created deals, or type in the navigation bar to find a created deal. Each viewable deal will be accompanied by a deal ID.

Deal IDs are only unique per exchange, so users must prepend the exchange abbreviation before the Deal ID. For example, to target Deal ID "deal12345" on Google’s AdX, users should input "adx/deal12345".

  3. To include or exclude a deal for targeting, click the green check mark or red strikethrough circle to the left of the deal name.

  4. Click Save & Continue to save the changes.

Deals CPM Override

This feature is only available for line items using bidding strategies where a flat CPM (CPM or VCR) is in use. Different CPM override prices can be applied on different deal IDs.

The UI will not allow saving a CPM Override that is lower than the Floor Price set on the Deal.

Deal CPM Override is a manually input number added during the creation of a deal that will take precedence over the deal's CPM when activated. This override will not be applied when a deal is targeted via Deal ID List. To enable the override, the line item has to target the deal directly while deal ID lists are still available for use in targeting. Once a deal has been selected from either targeting method, an option to override the CPM bid will be shown. For the deals where an override CPM is defined on the object, the price will automatically be applied. If left blank, the line item is going to fall back to the line item’s CPM specified on the overview screen.

Add Deals to a List

When uploading a deal list file, Upload csv, txt, or excel files only. Any existing list items included in the upload will be updated.

When wanting to target a group of deals at once, a deal list can be created. Targeting a deal list could be beneficial because it introduces a wider range of targeting options and creates a more diverse advertising strategy. When creating a deal list, a file must be uploaded with each line of the file containing deal information. For instance, the line should contain the exchange prefix followed by a forward slash and the deal ID. Below is an example:

abc/DEAL-ID-1

Line items can target any deal list during editing or creation from Targeting screen > App/Site tab > Deal List menu. For more information on targeting a list, see Lists.

Deal Quick Stats

The Deal metrics are accessible through QuickStats in the UI, offering a streamlined view of Deal activity. This feature provides immediate visibility into key Deal metrics without the need to pull separate reports, making it especially useful for troubleshooting. In order to view these stats, click the ellipses on the top right of the Deals list view, then select Manage Columns. See more about list view features here.

How It Works

For each Deal ID, the following QuickStats are available:

  • Auctions
  • Bid
  • Bid Rate
  • Impressions
  • Win Rate
  • Spend
  • Spend USD

Auction metrics represent the number of bid requests sent to the DSP or custom bidder that include the Deal ID. These metrics are based on a sampled data set and should be used cautiously for troubleshooting purposes.

Metrics are available for the following time ranges:

  • Today
  • Yesterday
  • Last 7 Days
  • Last 30 Days
  • Lifetime
  • No labels
