How to Use Bulk Edit Targeting

When viewing objects in list view in the UI, general settings can be bulk-edited across multiple items at once. To access and use bulk edit, follow the steps outlined below. For example, to apply the same geo-targeting update across several line items, bulk edit allows the change to be made once and applied to all selected items.

  1. Access Bulk Edit Targeting:

    • From the Line Items list screen, select the line items to be edited.
    • Click Bulk Edit at the bottom of the screen to initiate the bulk edit workflow.

  2. Choose Targeting Fields:

    • Targeting fields are organized by module (e.g., geo, device).
    • Search: A search bar can be used to locate specific targeting fields.
    • Show Favorites: Enabling the Show ★ only toggle will display only the favorite targeting fields.
    • Customize Favorites: Favorites can be added or removed, and changes will be applied across Buyer Cloud.

  3. Enable OR Fields (Optional):

    • The OR Fields toggle can be enabled for targeting expressions with OR conditions.
    • Caution: Excessive use of OR fields may lead to targeting errors or failed edits.

  4. Select Bulk Edit Operations:

Five operations are available for bulk editing:

    • Add to Existing: Adds new values to the current targeting values (not available for range fields like IP or Time targeting).
    • Remove All Values: Clears all values in a targeting field (limited to one operation per field).
    • Find & Remove: Removes specific values from a field (only one operation per field; not for range fields).
    • Find & Replace: Replaces specific values with new ones (can be performed multiple times per field).
    • Replace All Values: Clears all current values and adds new ones (limited to one operation per field, cannot be combined with others).

  5. Enter Targeting Values:

    • When using Add or Find & Replace, any value that already exists in the targeting field with the same operator will be skipped (duplicate values are not allowed).

  6. Add More Bulk Edit Actions (Optional):

    • Additional actions can be added by clicking the + icon in the side navigation.
    • Each action will be grouped by targeting field in the side navigation.
    • An ! icon indicates a missing required field.

  7. Order of Operations:

    • Bulk edit actions are processed in the order they are added.
    • Replace All Values cannot be combined with any other operation.
    • If an action results in an empty targeting expression, the bulk edit will fail (e.g., clearing all values).

  8. Review Changes (Optional):

    • Clicking Review provides a summary of the bulk edit actions.
    • Each targeting field and associated actions will be listed, with clickable links to specific actions for review.

  9. Execute Actions:

    • Once reviewed, the Execute Actions button will apply the changes.
    • A success screen will display a summary of the changes made.
    • If errors occur, an error message will be provided, detailing the invalid line items and the reasons for failure.

  10. Fix Errors or Skip Invalid Items:

    • If errors are encountered, the option is available to either fix them or proceed with valid changes and skip invalid line items.
    • Invalid line items will be listed, with links to their targeting page for quick editing.

Validations and Restrictions

  • Field Availability: Fields may be greyed out if they are unavailable for selection.
  • Required Fields: Missing required fields will trigger an incomplete flag, preventing submission until corrected.
  • Backend Validations: The system ensures that:
    • Targeting expressions cannot be left empty.
    • Conflicting AND/OR logic is not allowed.
    • Multiple operators (e.g., Include and Exclude) on the same targeting key are not permitted.

Segment Recency

For segment targeting:

  • Find & Remove/Find & Replace: No recency values are required or accepted.
  • Add/Replace with: Recency values can be defined when adding segments to targeting.
  • No labels
