Overview

VAST 3.0 enables additional functionality when uploading video creatives to the platform. These features are accessible through the Creative pane in the UI, as well as via fields in the Buzz API. For more details, the complete VAST 3.0 specification can be found on iab.com. The features supported via VAST 3.0 are as follows:

AdChoices (via the Icons element)

It is now possible to add the AdChoices icon to video creatives uploaded directly to the platform using the VAST Inline template. This can be done in the Creative Add-on section when creating or editing a video creative. A CPM fee applies for using the icon. For step-by-step instructions on adding AdChoices as a creative add-on, see AdChoices.

Based on research, the AdChoices icon should always be placed in the top-right corner of the video. If a different icon orientation is required, contact FreeWheel Support for assistance.

Skip Offset (via the skipoffset attribute)

For skippable video creatives, users can now define a custom duration after which the creative can be skipped. To set this attribute, navigate to the Creative Attributes section when creating or editing a video creative. Set the Skippable toggle to yes, then enter a time in the Skip Offset field. If a skip offset is not specified, a 5-second non-skippable window will default for all VAST 3.0 creatives. Custom offset durations are not supported when delivering on AdX, and the default 5-second skip window will apply.

For more information on skippable video and skip offsets, see Skippable Video.

As per the VAST 3.0 specification, the skipoffset attribute is not supported via Wrappers. The "Video VAST, Wrapper" creative template does not support skip offsets.

Custom Skip Event

With VAST 3.0, it is now possible to fire custom trackers when a user skips the video. To set up a custom tracker for video skips in the UI:

  1. Navigate to the Edit Creative screen through Trafficking > Creatives and select an existing video creative from list view or create a new one by selecting New Creative. Go to the General tab.
  2. Scroll to the Creative Attributes section and verify Skippable is toggled on.
  3. Scroll to the Pixels and Scripts section, select skip from the Vast Events dropdown, and add a custom tracking URL.

Custom Progress Events

Custom progress events can now be configured to track when users watch a video to specific time intervals, such as 5, 10, or 20 seconds. These events are similar to VAST events but allow custom video progress durations. To set up a custom progress event in the UI:

  1. Navigate to the Edit Creative screen through Trafficking > Creatives and select an existing video creative from list view or create a new one by selecting New Creative. Go to the General tab.
  2. Scroll to the Pixels and Scripts section, and under Progress Events enter the time interval, and add a custom tracking URL.

Before creating custom progress events, verify that the events are unique and do not exceed the total duration of the video.
