# Overview

FreeWheel has introduced a pre-decision framework that allows us to better filter for General Invalid Traffic (GIVT). With this framework, pre-decision filters are supported across MRM traffic. These filters are a set of rules used to determine whether or not a given request meets the conditions of the filter.

Pre-decision filters are applied to both linear and digital traffic in MRM and affect the following products:

| **Product** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| **Analytics Custom Reports** | This custom report is available at request and will provide clients with additional insights for filtered traffic. |
| **v4 Log Files** | View the **GIVTDecisionResult** field in v4 log files for filtration reasons. More information can be found in the *[Log Files Version 4](https://freewheel-wiki-stg.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/MUG/pages/270730556/Log+Files+Version+4)** *Hub article. |

# Frontend Filtration Custom Report

As mentioned above, FreeWheel has introduced an invalid traffic filtration report to provide clients with detailed insights regarding filtered IVT traffic.

**Report Name: NetworkID_Frontend_IVT_Report_MMDDYYYY.csv**

| **Field** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| **Event Date** | YYYY-MM-DD |
| **Site Section ID** | |
| **Site Section Name** | |
| **Filter Reason Code** | Code represents filtration reason in log files. |
| **Filter Reason** | Reason stated in plain text. |
| **Ad Requests detected by front-end filtration** | Number of ad requests detected by front-end filtration techniques in your own network.<br>This metric is measured for Distributors (Distributor ID would come along in Ad Request), including CRO+D scenario. |

# MRM Filtered Reason Codes

With the introduction of the new Invalid Traffic Custom Report, there are several reasons why traffic can be identified as invalid traffic and filtered. As a consumer of the Frontend IVT Report, you may see filtration codes in the Filter Reason Code.

Use the table below to learn what these codes mean. Please contact the FreeWheel Support team if you have any questions.

> ℹ️ **Note:** Codes that begin with "H" represent data from HUMAN MediaGuard, a pre-bid service used for predicting advertising fraud. MediaGuard leverages global threat intelligence, which hunts for new threats and is fed back into a detection engine algorithm. It uses machine learning to analyze data points to predict malicious behaviors that are generally categorized as sophisticated IVT ("SIVT").

| **Filter Reason Code** | **Filter Reason Name** | **Why have I received this code?** | **What can you do?** |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **I-DC** | Internal - Data Center | The ad traffic originating from servers in data centers whose IPs are linked to invalid activity. | Check the data center IP address(es) in question with industry lists, such as the TAG Data Center IP list. |
| **I-KC** | Internal - Known Crawler | A known crawler has been identified.<br>A crawler is a program or automated script that requests content and declares itself as non-human through a variety of identification mechanisms. | Remove traffic from all known crawlers. They are often included in industry lists, such as IAB Tech Lab, ABC International Spiders, and Bots List4. |
| **I-IRP** | Internal - Irregular Pattern | Ad traffic has been identified as irregular due to one or more attributes associated with irregular patterns. | Reach out to FreeWheel Support for further investigation. |
| **I-B** | Internal - IP, Domain and App Bundle | Filtered due to invalid IP, domain and mobile applications. | For the App Bundle- reach out to the Player Team to check what values are being passed.<br>For IP Address - reach out to the Account Team to check Allow/Block Lists for IP Address. |
| **I-Other** | Other | Filtered due to invalid request, invalid user agents, site sections, and other reasons. | Reach out to FreeWheel Support for further investigation. |
| **H-DC-MG** | HUMAN - GIVT Data Center - MediaGuard | Ad traffic originating from servers in data centers whose IPs are linked to invalid activity (typically non-human traffic). These are usually known data center IPs that are likely included in an industry list, such as the Trustworthy Accountability Group (TAG) Data Center IP list. | Check the data center IP address(es) in question with industry lists, such as the TAG Data Center IP list.  If you believe the IPs are incorrectly listed in the TAG DCIP list - the owner or lessee of the IP must contact TAG and request an investigation. |
| **H-FR-MG** | HUMAN - SIVT False Representative  - MediaGuard | An ad request for inventory that is different from the actual inventory being supplied, including ad requests where the actual ad is rendered to a different website or application, device, or other target (such as geography).  The declared value does not match the detected value. | Some examples can be:<br>Spoofed measurements, Domain Spoofing, Emulators Masquerading as a Real User Devices, Parameter Mismatch (Inconsistencies in Transaction and Browser/Agent Parameters).<br>Be sure that no test, slug or non-dynamic values are being passed.  Look at restricting severely outdated browsers and devices. |
| **H-IP-MG** | HUMAN - GIVT Irregular Pattern  - MediaGuard | Ad traffic that includes one or more attributes (e.g., user cookie) associated with known irregular patterns, such as auto-refresh traffic or duplicate clicks. | |
| **H-KC-MG** | HUMAN - GIVT Known Crawler - MediaGuard | A program or automated script that requests content and declares itself as non-human through a variety of identification mechanisms. These crawlers are usually included in the IAB International Spiders and Bots List. | Remove traffic from all known crawlers. They are often included in industry lists, such as IAB Tech Lab, ABC International Spiders, and Bots List.   If you believe the User Agents are incorrectly listed in the IAB Spiders and Bots list contact TAG and request an investigation. |
| **H-MB-MG** | HUMAN - SIVT Manipulated Behavior  - MediaGuard | A browser, application, or other programs that trigger an ad interaction without a user’s consent, such as an unintended click, an unexpected conversion, or false attribution for installation of a mobile application. | Be sure the site, channel or other experience is void of all stacked ads, ad hiding,
clickjacking, pop-unders, pop-overs or other highly intrusive and unexpected experiences. |
| **H-MUI-MG** | HUMAN - SIVT Misleading User Interface  - MediaGuard | A web page, application, or other visual element modified to falsely include one or more ads. This includes rendering ads that are not visible to the user or tricking users to click on an ad. | |
| **H-UC-MG** | HUMAN - SIVT Undisclosed Classification  - MediaGuard | Invalid traffic that cannot be classified using any of the other categories in the taxonomy, or sensitive invalid traffic methods that cannot be disclosed. | Reach out to FreeWheel Support or the Account Team for further investigation. |
| **H-AB-MG** | HUMAN - SIVT Automated Browsing  - MediaGuard | A program or automated script that requests web content (including digital ads) without user involvement and without declaring itself as a crawler, such as (and primarily referring to) botnets. | Some content providers or players have guides that let the user quickly scroll through and quickly preview content.  If ads load in a high frequency per time period this can also mimic automated browsing and has crawler and non-human characteristics.  Delaying the ad call given this consumer behavior or another way to limit that kind of activity could help. |
| **H-IB-MG** | HUMAN - SIVT Incentivized Behavior  - MediaGuard | The invalid and undisclosed use of any financial or other incentive to cause users to interact with one or more ads for the sole purpose of receiving said incentive. This does not include content where the incentive is known or properly disclosed to the other party in the transaction. | Be sure site traffic is not coming from click farms or pageview automation sources.   Know your partners in all parts of your business. |
| **Pass** | Pass | This code appears for all unfiltered events. | |
