# Overview

After a listing is accepted and a purchased order is created, a deal can be created to activate inventory and make it available for DSP targeting and bidding. The deal links accepted supply to buyers, generates the External Deal ID used for DSP trafficking, and provides access to activation settings such as pricing, buyer seats, delivery controls, ad units, schedules, and targeting.

---

# Before Beginning

Create a deal after you have:

- [Accepted the listing](https://freewheel-knowledge-hub.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CHUG/pages/509411362) and generated the purchased order.
- Optionally grouped one or more purchased orders into an Acquired Supply Package or refined them with an Inventory Package. See [Curation](https://freewheel-knowledge-hub.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CHUG/pages/510033948) for more information.

# Create a Deal

1. Navigate to **Demand** > **Programmatic** > **Deals**.
2. Click **Create Deal**.
3. Select the **Deal Type**. Types include:

| | |
| --- | --- |
| **First Look** | Competes in the Hard Guaranteed with Passback priority bucket. Select First Look to give a buyer the highest programmatic priority, allowing access to inventory before other programmatic deal types regardless of eCPM.<br>- **Programmatic ad must defer to direct-sold sponsorships: **This option allows a First Look deal to yield to direct-sold sponsorships while maintaining high programmatic priority. When enabled, sponsorships take precedence over the First Look deal to help protect sponsorship delivery and direct-sold commitments. This setting is configured during deal creation and cannot be changed afterward. |
| **Programmatic Guaranteed** | Competes in the Guaranteed priority bucket. Select Programmatic Guaranteed to deliver inventory through a guaranteed transaction executed programmatically, with committed volume and delivery terms. |
| **Biddable Guaranteed** | Competes in the Guaranteed priority bucket. Biddable Guaranteed gives guaranteed-priority treatment without requiring guaranteed DSP demand such as committed volume and delivery terms. |
| **Deal** | (Default selection) This is a standard programmatic deal in the Open Competition bucket that provides flexible configuration options for volume, pricing, scheduling, and buyer priority. |
| **Backfill Deal** | Competes in the "Backfill" priority bucket. This is a lower-priority deal type used to monetize remaining available inventory after higher-priority demand has been considered. It is typically used to capture incremental value from unsold supply and is best suited for flexible demand that does not require preferential access. |

4. Click **Create**.

# Configure Required Fields

While a deal can be created and added to the Deals grid in just a few steps, it cannot be [activated](https://freewheel-knowledge-hub.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CHUG/pages/510033982) until all required fields are configured. The sections below describe the required settings needed before activation.

> ℹ️ Additional optional settings are also available within the Basic, Targeting, Restrictions, and Advanced tabs of the Deals grid. For detailed information about all deal settings, see [Deals Grid Reference](https://freewheel-knowledge-hub.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CHUG/pages/509575199/Deals#Grid-Reference).

## Enter a Deal Name

When a deal is created, the **Name** field is blank. To assign a name to the deal:

1. Hover over the **Name & ID** field and select the edit (pencil) icon.
2. Enter a **Deal Name** (up to 255 characters).
3. Optionally, enter a **Deal Description**.
4. Click **Apply**.

> ℹ️ After a deal name is assigned, it displays as a clickable link. Select the deal name to open the deal's [programmatic performance dashboard](https://freewheel-knowledge-hub.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CHUG/pages/510263345).

## Configure the External Deal ID

The External Deal ID is the public-facing identifier for a deal. Curation Hub includes this value in bid requests sent to DSPs, and agencies use the same value within their DSPs to target and transact against the deal. To configure an External Deal ID:

1. Select the **External Deal ID** field to open the configuration widget.
2. Enter an ID manually (up to 255 characters; alphanumeric characters, hyphens, and underscores only) or select **Generate ID** to automatically create a unique ID using the format `ABC-DEF-xxxxx` (for example, `FRE-TES-00567`).
3. Click **Apply**.

> ℹ️ As noted above, the External Deal ID is the value used in the DSP to target the deal.

## Select a Buyer

The Buyers widget is where you attach one or more buyer seats/DSPs to a programmatic deal. Only active buyers can be added to a deal.

There’s also an advanced option tied to buyer selection: **Open To Any Linked Buyers**. When enabled, linked sub-seats under the selected buyer can bid too; for example, selecting a parent buyer could let related sub-seats bid. This is not supported by all DSPs.

## Configure the Deal Volume

For a deal, Volume controls how much inventory or budget the deal is allowed to use, depending on the selected budget model. To configure the deal volume:

1. Select the **Volume** field in the deal row to open the Volume configuration widget.
2. Choose the applicable **budget model**:
  - **Impression Goal**
  - **Money Budget**
3. Enter the corresponding value:
  - an **impression goal** if using Impression Goal
  - a **money budget in USD** if using Money Budget
4. Configure any available pacing, cap, or request-limiting options as needed for the deal type.
5. Click **Apply**.

> ℹ️ If a deal’s type is changed, the system resets **Volume**, and the user must reopen the Volume widget and enter a new value.

## Select the Inventory Assignment

Inventory Assignment defines the inventory included in or excluded from a deal. This configuration determines which standard attributes or inventory packages are eligible for the deal. To configure inventory assignment:

### Configure Inventory Assignment

1. In the **Inventory Assignment** field, open the widget for the deal.
2. Select the inventory you want to **include** or **exclude** for the deal. Inventory Assignment can be based on **standard attributes** or **inventory packages**.
3. If you are working with Marketplace supply, select the **Marketplace network** and assign the relevant purchased orders, **Supply Source Packages**, or **Inventory Packages** as needed.
4. Click **Apply** to save the inventory assignment.

### Notes

- Confirm there is no conflict between **Inventory Assignment** in the **Basic** tab and **Platform Targeting** in **Deals > Targeting**.
- If your workflow uses reusable Marketplace groupings, you can assign a previously created **Supply Source Package** during deal setup under Inventory Assignment.
- If enabled for your network, you can also exclude inventory with **unknown standard attributes** in Inventory Assignment to prevent delivery against non-standardized inventory.

## Assign One or More Ad Units

The Ad Unit setting defines which ad unit classes are eligible for bidding on a programmatic deal. In practice, this determines which types of ad slots the deal can transact against, such as Pre-Roll, Mid-Roll, and Post-Roll.

To assign an ad unit:

1. Select the **Ad Unit** field to open the configuration widget.
2. Select one or more ad units that should be eligible for the deal, such as:
  - **Pre-Roll**
  - **Mid-Roll**
  - **Post-Roll**
3. Click **Apply**.

---

# Configure Pricing

The Pricing widget controls how inventory is priced and presented to buyers. It supports fixed CPM pricing, multiple auction models, and automated margin application.

By allowing deals to inherit publisher floor prices and apply configurable markups, the widget helps maintain pricing consistency, simplify deal management, and support inventory monetization strategies across curated supply pools.

> ℹ️ Curation Hub supports disclosed and non-disclosed business models through the Pricing widget.

New deals have the following default values:

- **Price:** $0.00 (2nd Price Auction Floor)
- **Apply Custom Bid Price:** Off

While many configuration options are available to support specific business needs, this example focuses on configuring margin capabilities, where a margin is applied to the sell-side floor.

1. Click the **Pricing** field to open the configuration widget.
2. Select a **Pricing Model**:
  - **Fixed Price**: Uses a predetermined CPM agreed upon by the agency and publisher.
  - **1st Price Auction Floor**: Uses the configured CPM as a minimum bid floor. The highest bidder wins and pays their bid amount.
  - **2nd Price Auction Floor**: (Default selection) Uses the configured CPM as a minimum bid floor. The highest bidder wins and pays an amount based on the second-highest bid.

For this example, keep **2nd price auction floor**.
3. Select a **Floor Price Policy**:
  - **Enter Floor Price**: Manually specify a floor price.
  - **Floor price from sell-side floor**: Use the floor price provided by the publisher. If selected, a fixed or percentage-based margin can also be applied.

> ℹ️ When determining the effective floor price, the system applies the following order of precedence:
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ 1. Sell-side floor
> ℹ️ 2. Inventory floor (if no sell-side floor is available)
> ℹ️ 3. Manually entered floor price (if no inventory floor is available)

For this example, select **Floor price from sell-side floor**.

4. Enter a **Fixed** or **Percentage** value for **Margin applied to sell-side floor**. For example, enter *10* in the **Percentage** field.
5. Click **Apply**.
