6. Remove unsupported characters: Remove non-alphanumeric characters that are not explicitly retained. Periods (“.”) and hyphens (“-”) are retained because they are acceptable in email addresses.
7. Handle the @ symbol: Ensure only one “@” symbol remains, separating the username from the domain. Remove any additional “@” symbols.
8. Remove mailing-list identifiers: Remove mailing-list identifiers such as “+newlist” in “username+newlist@domain.com”.
9. Generate the SHA-256 hash: After all normalization steps are complete, generate the SHA-256 hash of the normalized email address.
