Segments are objects that contain a group of users for the purpose of targeting. Users may be added to a segment through either an event or segment tag placed in a live environment, or uploading a file with first-party data that contains users through a segment upload. When using a tag or pixel to trigger an event for adding users to a segment, the pixel can be incorporated into a web environment. Alternatively, users can be gathered by embedding the tag within a creative, thus capturing all viewers of that creative and adding them to a segment. |
To access the Segments page, navigate to Trafficking > Segments at the top of the screen.
Column Name | Description |
---|---|
Name & ID | Name & ID of created segment. |
Segment Description | If a description was added during segment creation, it will display here. |
Alt ID | Any number or string. Used to map this object to an object in a third-party system. |
Advertiser | Advertiser or account this segment belongs to. |
Segment Key | The unique ID for a segment in a buzz key. |
Segment Count (APAC, EMEA, NAM) | Segment count by region. Displays how many user IDs were uploaded to each region for segment. |
Count Update Date | Date of when the segment count has been refreshed. |
A window will appear with the following fields to complete:
*Required
Field Name | Description | |
---|---|---|
Segment ID | An ID that will be generated and applied to this segment upon creation. | |
Segment Key | The unique ID for a segment in an account. | |
Advertiser or Account | Segments can belong to an account or to an individual advertiser. Select “Account Level Segment” to create a segment that will be available to all advertisers in the account. Select an individual advertiser to have this segment available to a single advertiser.
| |
Segment Name* | Specify the name of the segment. | |
Time-to-Live Days | This determines the number of days to keep the user in this segment. If not set, the default is 30 days. The max number you can set is 90 days. Custom Segment Expiration, or Time-To-Live (TTL), allows customers to specify how many days users stay in a segment. How It Works
| |
Verb Usage | Define the way in which line items can use the segment in targeting. For example, segments with a ‘Verb Usage’ of EXCLUDE, will not be able INCLUDE or REQUIRE users when being applied to a line item.
| |
Alternative ID | Any number or string. Used to map this object to an object in an outside system | |
Description | Give the segment a description (e.g. how it should be used, classification of the users inside) or add any notes you relevant to the segment. | |
Active (Y/N) | Make the segment either active or inactive. Inactive segments will not be targetable at line item level. De-activating segments does not remove them from QPS if using advanced filtering. | |
Extensible (Y/N) | Choosing "Yes" for extensible allows for the segment to be extended using Liveramp or Freewheel graphs. | |
Tag Type | Dropdown including the following options:
Once the tag type has been selected, click Save & Generate Tag for the tag to be generated and copied. | |
Segment Categories | Segment Categories can be used to organize segments into a hierarchy for a cleaner appearance in the Targeting > Segments section of the Edit Line Item screen. This field is strictly visual and does not impact behavior. |
Segment tags are objects that get added to an advertiser's website or app environment to capture data about activity, or add users to a segment. Below are the available tag types with descriptions:
Tag Type | Description | |
---|---|---|
Iframe tag that includes exchange sync pixels (recommended for desktop) | Using this tag will fire a number of sync with Beeswax exchanges when loaded by the user. This helps to increase the presence of Beeswax User IDs in bid requests, and improve ability to identify users.
| |
Tag for implementing in mobile apps with user_id passed in manually | Export this URL to be called in order to add a user to a segment in a mobile app environment. The users device ID must be manually populated just after the &user_id= parameter in the URL. | |
Image tag for adding a user into a segment | This is a typical website-based pixel and is exported as an HTML tag and should be implemented in an HTML environment (site or container). | |
Image tag using Alternative ID to add users into a segment | Similar to the above, however uses the Alternative ID of the segment to add users into the segment. |
Advanced segments enable the creation of custom audiences by combining various basic segments—usually derived from 1st or 3rd party data—using Boolean logic. This method facilitates the establishment of rules to merge and target multiple segments into a single targeting segment through the use of AND, OR, or NOT statements.
To create a new advanced segment, follow these steps below:
The word "beeswax" should be replaced by your buzz key |
