Overview

Under most circumstances for RTB Often in Real-Time Bidding (RTB) transactions, publishers and exchanges prefer to control the ability to skip having control over whether a video ad can be skipped. OpenRTB therefore assumes by default that a standard linear video ad can be used as the response to a skippable request and the ability to skip the ad will be provided by the supplier’s player automatically. (Source: OpenRTB 2.4 Spec)As a result, OpenRTB expects advertisers to respond to skippable video ad requests with standard linear video ads, and publishers will provide the skip button.

If a bid request includes a “skippable” attribute, it indicates that the publisher will add The presence of a “skippable” attribute in the bid request means that the publisher will impose a skip button on the ad. The absence of the “skippable” attribute should be assumed to mean that When the "skippable" attribute is not included, it is unknown whether the publisher will impose add a skip button.

How it Works

Beeswax accordingly has the creative attribute “Skippable” for any video creative, either VAST Inline or VAST Wrapper. You can declare whether the The “Skippable” attribute for is available for both VAST Inline and VAST Wrapper video creatives. This allows advertisers to specify whether an ad is eligible to be skipped by selecting the “Skippable” option in the Creative Attributes section of the Edit Creative screen.

You Advertisers cannot force a skip as an option--i.e. you cannot choose to run on only skippable inventory. You can either choose to run on inventory that may allow ads to be skipped OR inventory that does not allow ads to be skipped. Essentially, by setting the flag to Skippable you're saying "I'm OK if the ad gets skipped on inventory that allows skipping"., meaning they cannot exclusively target skippable inventory. The available options are:

  • Skippable inventory: Ads may be skipped, but it depends on whether the publisher supports this feature
  • Non-skippable inventory: Ads cannot be skipped

By selecting the "Skippable" option, the advertiser indicates that they are comfortable with the ad being skipped on inventory where skipping is allowed.

Buyer Cloud does not fully support use cases where advertisers provide their own skip functionality (for example, using VPAID to implement a custom skip button), but does not prohibit it. Note that advertisers may experience unexpected behavior when using VPAID creatives with custom skip buttonsWhile Beeswax does not have full support for use cases where you provide your own skip functionality (e.g., using VPAID to render a skip button), we do not prohibit it. You may encounter unexpected behavior if using VPAID creatives with its own skip button.

When setting a creative to as "Skippable, you may also choose " there is also an option to set a  skip offset to dictate how far into a video one Skip Offset. This determines how much of the video a viewer must watch before they can the skip option becomes available.
